Durban Botanical Gardens Trail of Lights
Discover the beautiful Durban Botanical Gardens at night. The gardens will be lit by a trail of
thousands of Christmas lights from the 13th of December to the 30th of December. Each corner of
the garden will be themed with stunning Christmas decorations and displays. Children can meet
Santa and get a photo with him and his elves in Santa’s Grotto. There are small stalls all around
the gardens selling items such as Christmas cakes and baubles and all the proceeds go to local

Christmas Carol: The Story of Scrooge
The Playhouse Theater in Durban will be hosting the Cape Town Ballet Company from the 6th to
the 8th of December. Take your children to watch this magical retelling of the story of Scrooge in
the form of ballet. Tickets start from R150 per person and they are available from the Playhouse
Carols under the Stars
On the 19th of December head to Granada Square in Umhlanga to enjoy an evening of
Christmas Carols under the stars. Local celebrities will be leading the attendees in singing well-
known Christmas Carols and festive songs around a giant Christmas tree. The event will run
from 18:00 to 21:00. There will be food stalls and drinks available for purchase. Entry is free but
a donation of a toy to the value of R100 is requested. The toys will be given to underprivileged
children for Christmas.
Christmas Maker Market
Buy handcrafted gifts for everyone this Christmas at the Maker Market at the Litchi Orchard in
Salt Rock. The market will run from 09:00 to 13:00 on the 14th of December. Bring the whole
family for a day of fun browsing the stores. Food is available to purchase. Live music on stage
throughout the event and entry is free.
On the 18th December, Park Square in Umhlanga will be hosting a Christmas Market and
screening a Christmas Movie for the whole family to enjoy. Browse the market for treats before
settling down to watch Arthur Christmas. The market starts at 17:00 and the movie starts at
19:00. There will be plenty of food options and drinks available for purchase. Entry to the event
On the 22nd of December, take a break from the Christmas events and head a short drive North
of Ballito to Blythedale Beach. There will be an adventure market with tons of activities for the
kids. At lunchtime, try the delicious prawns on offer. You will get 6 prawns with coconut rice in a
choice of three flavours for just R70. Entry to the market is free and parking is charged at R20
per vehicle. There are plenty of other food options available for those that don’t eat prawns.
